About Client

The client is a non-profit GmbH from Munich, Germany with over 10 years of experience in development cooperation in informal settlements. The company has developed twist blocks, a flexible, reusable, cost-effective and fire-safe construction system for buildings in disadvantaged regions. They manufacture the twist blocks from two production sites based in Kibera, Nairobi Kenya. The production facility is operated by personnel who have been trained on how to produce the twist blocks to the required standards using locally available material.

The client approached AMENA AFRICA to offer a growth strategy to scale their operations in Kenya. They sought to explore how they could tap into the private sector as majority of their current clientele came from the third sector. The company was exploring ways of diversifying its customer base to increase its revenue. In addition, the company was keen on receiving a detailed market analysis, sales and marketing strategies as well as an implementation guide on how to undertake their activities successfully in the Kenyan market.

Our approach

AMENA AFRICA developed a growth strategy that focused mainly on a wholistic understanding of the construction sector, specifically, the alternative building technologies segment. This was done by visiting the production site, meetings with some of the clients clientele and industry experts and a detailed review of their financial history to understand their present revenue streams as well as provide a benchmark for forecasts to be undertaken. 

Results

The company received a detailed business plan highlighting activities to roll out in the short, mid and long term phase. From the analysis and financial forecasts it was evident that the company will catapult its growth by leveraging heavily on digital marketing techniques, proper book keeping as well as securing a strategic location to sell their products from.
