A targeted research initiative is being undertaken to assess the landscape of business growth and investment facilitation in key African markets. The study aims to map existing structures that support the MSMEs within the agricultural and food production sectors, analyzing their effectiveness in fostering innovation, financial sustainability, and market expansion. By evaluating strategic partnerships, funding approaches, and knowledge-sharing mechanisms, the project will generate data-driven recommendations to enhance business development efforts. The insights gained will contribute to strengthening support networks, optimizing resource allocation, and improving the overall competitiveness of enterprises in the food supply chain.
Qualifications
The consultant should have the following qualifications and competences:
Technical Proficiency
- Expertise in business landscape, market systems research, and enterprise development strategies.
- Strong ability to analyze investment models, SME support structures, and capacity-building frameworks.
- Experience in conducting sector-wide assessments, mapping business development service providers, and evaluating enterprise growth enablers.
Research & Analytical Skills
- Proven track record in conducting multi-country studies, with expertise in data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to assess business development initiatives, investment mechanisms, and entrepreneurial support structures in emerging markets.
- Experience in developing strategic recommendations to enhance SME competitiveness, innovation, and access to finance.
Capacity Building & Knowledge Sharing
- Experience in designing training programs, toolkits, and best practice guidelines for SME growth and support initiatives.
- Ability to facilitate stakeholder engagement and knowledge-sharing sessions with policymakers, development organizations, and business support intermediaries.
Regional Experience
- In-depth understanding of business environments in African markets, particularly in relation to SME growth and agribusiness sectors.
- Familiarity with economic policies, investment climates, and challenges affecting enterprise development in key markets
Reporting & Compliance
- Ability to produce high-quality reports with data-driven insights and strategic recommendations.
- Experience in aligning research findings with international best practices in private sector development, financial inclusion, and sustainable business growth.
