This initiative aims to enhance agricultural exports in Ethiopia by strengthening trade development and capacity building. The consultant will identify market opportunities, facilitate strategic connections, and provide insights into the agriculture sector, including trade policies and consumer behaviors. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in trade development, a robust local network, and experience in supporting international market entry efforts.
Responsibilities
- Market Analysis: Provide expert insights into the agriculture sector, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Leverage existing networks to arrange B2B meetings, partnerships, and market visits for international exporters.
- Regulatory Guidance: Advise firms on compliance with local and regional agricultural policies, standards, and certification processes.
- Opportunity Identification: Monitor and report on emerging projects, funding opportunities, and government initiatives relevant to agriculture.
- Client Support: Deliver tailored briefings, introductions, and logistical coordination for trade missions or buyer visits.
- Reporting: Submit detailed feedback on engagements, including meeting summaries and actionable recommendations.
Qualifications and Experience
The consultant should have the following qualifications and competences:
Sector Knowledge:
- Demonstrable expertise in trade development, particularly related to agricultural products.
- Familiarity with the agricultural landscape in East Africa (especially Ethiopia), including key players and institutions.
Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master's degree in international Trade, Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, or related field.
- 5-10 years in trade development, export promotion, or international business, preferably in agriculture.
- Success in managing trade-related projects in Africa or similar markets.
- Proven track record in supporting international agricultural firms with market entry strategies.
- Understanding of international trade regulations, tariffs, and export documentation.
Key Competencies:
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to produce high-quality reports and market briefs.
- Fluency in English (Amharic or local dialect is a plus).
Reporting & Compliance
- Ability to produce high-quality reports with data-driven insights and strategic recommendations.
- Experience in aligning research findings with international best practices in private sector development, financial inclusion, and sustainable business growth.
